Baseball America Texas Rangers top 10 prospect list

MLB: Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Baseball America has released their 2018 midseason top 10 prospect list for the Texas Rangers, and the top three are no surprise, as Leody Taveras, Julio Pablo Martinez and Willie Calhoun were on the mid-season top 100 list, in that order.

Following those three are a couple of high school pitchers from the last couple of drafts, a passel of higher-level pitching prospects, an A ball shortstop and a big lefty reliever.

The write-up acknowledges the franchise’s problem right now, with the system as a whole being hurt by injuries, and the major league team not seeing as much progress as you would like from some of the young players in the majors.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, while they will be sellers at the trade deadline, it is unlikely most of the guys they will be dealing will bring them back any prospects who would crack the top 10 list. Texas will instead likely be looking at trying to find diamonds in the rough or otherwise overlooked prospects who they think have a chance to take a step forward.
