Bartolo Colon reached his zenith with his 246th career win in his last start to become MLB’s all-time leader in wins by a Latin-born pitcher. Tonight, Colon added another win to the tally in what will surely end up being the first on his way to 492 wins since I’m pretty sure Bartolo Colon is mischievous deity just goofing off here on Earth.
Player of the Game: By pretty much any metric, Robinson Chirinos is one of the five or so best everyday hitting catchers in baseball. It’s kind of amazing to me that no team sought to acquire him at the deadline.
Chirinos would have helped a team win playoff games. But that short-sightedness is our current gain as we get to watch things like Chirinos swatting three-run dongs off Zack Greinke to turn a possible loss into a comeback victory.
Chirinos even provided the insurance with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth and made a nice play in front of home plate to prevent the tying run from scoring in the top of the inning.
Up Next: Yovani Gallardo will make the start in the finale of this brief two-game set opposite LHP Patrick Corbin for Arizona. First pitch from Arlington is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
