Texas Rangers transactions: Delino DeShields has been placed on the 10 day disabled list today due to a fractured finger, the Rangers announced today. Drew Robinson has been recalled to take his place on the active roster.
As we discussed earlier today, the uncertain status of DeShields and third baseman Adrian Beltre, who is nursing a bad hamstring, made a roster move likely, since otherwise, the Rangers’ only bench player today would have been Robinson Chirinos. Robinson seemed like the most likely choice to be brought up, since he can play all the infield and outfield positions, maximizing team’s depth and flexibility.
Its not out of the question there could be another move or two today or tomorrow — Beltre could still land on the d.l., or Mike Minor, who was scratched today, could end up on the disabled list, either of which would allow the Rangers to get another healthy body up and on the roster.
