57-72 - Texas scores runs, halts Khris Davis in 4-2 win in Oakland

Perhaps the Rangers finally figured out that Khris Davis was born to annihilate them. It only took three years.

Your story for today is the Rangers hit two home runs and for the first time in the last 100 games that these two teams have played Khris Davis didn’t hit any!

Texas scored four runs in total off Edwin Jackson which I didn’t think was possible because the A’s scavenged Jackson from a discarded pile in a recycling bin next to a dumpster in an alleyway behind a sewage plant on an island consisting of nothing but landfills. Those guys for Oakland usually shut the Rangers out.

As mentioned, Davis didn’t hit any home runs but that’s because for the first time in three years, the Rangers realized it was a bad idea to pitch to him and sent him merrily to first bases twice via a walk and a HBP. Perhaps most cathartic, however, was Jose Leclerc striking Davis out as the potential tying run in the bottom of the ninth.

Player of the Game: At last it was a Rangers starter who one-hit the Athletics. Mike Minor has been the best starting pitcher for the Rangers in 2018 and today he had one of his better outings as he allowed just the one hit in six innings while striking out four and issuing just one free pass.

Up Next: Texas has a nice, leisurely vacation day off in the Bay Area tomorrow before BARTing over to San Francisco for a series over the weekend. Drew Hutchison will pitch in the opener for the Rangers against Pudge’s kiddo RHP Dereck Rodriguez for the Giants. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 9:15 pm CT.
