Texas Rangers transactions: Bartolo Colon has been placed on the 10 day disabled list with a lower back strain, the Rangers announced today. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled infielder Hanser Alberto.

Colon was dealing with a back issue this past weekend, which delayed his last start, and with the Rangers currently using a six man rotation, the team can put him in the d.l. and not have to bring up another starting pitcher. Instead, Texas gets Alberto back as a utility infielder, and as an extra positional player this weekend as they lose the DH and have to plan on pinch hitting for pitchers.

Alberto had 12 plate appearances in the majors earlier this season, but has spent most of the year in Round Rock. He is slashing .330/.346/.452 for the Express.
