58-73 - The big inning dooms El De Las Matas Perez as Rangers fall 5-3

Despite Rougned Odor’s best efforts once again, the Rangers weren’t able to match yesterday’s comeback

MLB: Texas Rangers at San Francisco Giants Kiel Maddox-USA TODAY Sports

Just like last night, the Giants scored four runs against the Rangers in the first inning today. Unlike last night, despite the best efforts of a certain feisty second baseman’s best efforts once again, the Rangers didn’t have a final rally in them this time.

Martin Perez was the starter getting shellacked in the first inning today in the Drew “Hutch” Hutchison role as he allowed the four runs on three hits and a walk. The big blow came on a Brandon “DJ BC Raw” Crawford two-out, two-run dinger just as it appeared that “El De Las Matas” Perez might wiggle out of the inning with only modest damage.

As we’ve seen time and time again, Perez seems to find a way to turn modest damage into total destruction and see an entire outing ruined. Right on cue, after the first inning, Perez allowed just two more hits in four scoreless, walkless innings with four strikeouts.

Player of the Game: Rougned “El Tipo” Odor had three of the Rangers’ six hits including a three-run home run that had to have made the Giants and their fans think, “Here we go again...”

Unfortunately, this time, they were able to get the rest of the Rangers out before Rougie came back up to finish them off.

Up Next: The Rangers close out their week in the Bay Area with a matinee finale against the Giants. Yovani “Yo” Gallardo will take the mound for Texas against old friend Derek “Dutch” Holland for San Francisco. First pitch from AT&T Park is scheduled for 3:05 pm CT.
