Drew Hutchison had allowed two hits on the night and had most recently set the Twins down in order in the previous inning when he returned to the mound in the fifth inning tonight. Before the Rangers got the second out of that fateful top of the fifth, they saw a 6-0 lead turn into an 8-6 deficit.
Before the night was over, the Twins would score ten runs before Texas scored another run in the ninth and the Rangers now have their fifth consecutive loss.
No worries! Willie Calhoun gets to return to the big leagues tomorrow with rosters expanding, right? Nah. Texas is waiting for the minor league season to end to make call-ups for no reason whatsoever.
Player of the Game: Nomar Mazara hit a much-needed, monster three-run dong that momentarily seemed like it was going to be the icing on an easy win for Texas.
Up Next: Yovani Gallardo will make the start for the Rangers on September 1 because even though they’re nearly 20 games below .500 the starting pitching depth has always been the bugaboo for 2018 Texas Rangers. The Twins will counter Gallardo with an actually young, actually good, actually talented starter in RHP Jose Berrios. They’re living the dream. First pitch from The Ballpark on Saturday night is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
