49-64 - Rangers denied sweep in 9-6 finale loss to Orioles

Austin Bibens-Dirkx wants his roster spot back, Drew Hutchison

MLB: Baltimore Orioles at Texas Rangers Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Today the Rangers sacrificed poor Austin Bibens-Dirkx to the I-35 gods to sign reclamation project Drew Hutchison and plop him down into the rotation with like ten minutes notice.

Honestly, considering where the Rangers are, and with Hutchison’s recent success with the Dodgers in the minor leagues (4-1, 2.14 ERA, 8.57 K/9, 2.79 BB/9 in 42.0 IP), it didn’t seem like that bad of an idea.

Except apparently the Major Leagues are still the Major Leagues even when you’re facing the Orioles as Hutchison allowed six runs in three innings, including two dongs, and looked genuinely terrible while walking three and striking out zero.

Pitching is hard and the Rangers could not finish off the sweep of Baltimore.

Player of the Game: Jurickson Profar had a Rougie Lite afternoon as he went 1-for-2 with a single, a stolen base, a run scored, and three walks all while playing sterling defense at third base.

Up Next: The Rangers continue Operation Keep Seattle Out of the Playoffs beginning Monday with Martin Perez set to face LHP Wade LeBlanc and the sliding Mariners. First pitch in the opener from The Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
