The Texas Rangers are calling up Yohander Mendez from the minor leagues tomorrow to start the series finale against the Minnesota Twins. Mendez, who would have otherwise been called up Tuesday, when the minor league season is over, will start in place of Bartolo Colon, who is dealing with a stomach virus.

Mendez was expected to get an extended look in the rotation earlier this year, but was demoted due to a late night incident in Kansas City, and has spent his time since in the minors working his way back. Mendez, a heralded signee from the same J-2 class as Ronald Guzman and Nomar Mazara, is out of options after this season, but has not shown he yet he can consistently get major league hitters out. He will be getting an opportunity this month to show he deserves to keep his 40 man roster spot.
