Texas Rangers prospects: Fangraphs’ top prospect list has been updated, and center fielder Bubba Thompson has moved up in the rankings, checking in at #93 on their list. Fangraphs ranks all the prospects who have at least a 50 Future Value grade, and thus the ranking isn’t a top 100, but includes everyone who reaches that tier — currently, there are 131 prospects who are officially ranked.

Thompson, who turned 20 in June, was the Rangers’ first round pick in the 2017 draft, and as a former football quarterback who had never played baseball full-time prior to being drafted, he was perceived as being a raw project. He’s shown better skills, particularly hitting skills, than I think many expected, however, and after his .289/.344/.446 slash line for low-A Hickory this year, with 32 steals in 39 attempts and solid reviews for his defense in center, it wouldn’t be surprising if he creeps into the back end of other folks’ top 100 prospect lists.
