Don Welke, former Ranger front office man, has died

Don Welke, San Diego VP of Scouting and former Ranger front office guru, has passed away at the age of 75

MLB: Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Don Welke, San Diego Padres Vice President of Scouting and former member of the Texas Rangers front office braintrust, has passed away at the age of 75, it was announced.

This is sad news for the baseball community...Welke spent over a half-century working in baseball, and was a key part of the Texas Rangers front office team that built the two-time American League championship clubs earlier this decade. Welke was brought on board to the Rangers when Jon Daniels became general manager, and only left when A.J. Preller, a Welke protege, left to become the general manager of the San Diego Padres.

Our thoughts go out to the Welke family and all of his friends and colleagues in MLB.
