With the minor league regular season having come to an end yesterday, its a good time to look at the final numbers for the players for the Rangers’ various minor league affiliates. We are starting today with the hitters for the Rangers’ Arizona Rookie League team.
Three 2018 high school draft picks jump out as having had very solid debuts. Jonathan Ornelas, the team’s 3rd round pick this year, put up a solid .302/.389/.459 slash line with 15 steals in 20 attempts while playing primarily third base. Frainyer Chavez, a 22nd rounder, slashed .306/.378/.405 with 23 steals in 29 attempts while mostly playing shortstop. And Jayce Easley, the Rangers’ 5th round pick this year, slashed .287/.389/.325 with 22 steals in 26 attempts, manning second base primarily. David Garcia, a catcher who was one of the Rangers’ prized J-2 signees from a couple of years ago, also had a respectable season.
