The 2019 Texas Rangers ZiPS projections are out and...well, its kind of ugly. Joey Gallo is the only player projected to have at least a 2 fWAR, Lance Lynn is the top pitcher at 1.8 fWAR, and Adrian Beltre, who is retired, is the second-highest position player on the list.

A couple of things that jump out at me...Elvis Andrus, Rougned Odor, Nomar Mazara and Willie Calhoun would all have very disappointing years if they perform like ZiPS projects. The third and fourth best starting pitchers by fWAR are Brock Burke and Martin Perez, one of whom is slated to start the season in AA and one of whom is currently a free agent.

This shouldn’t be all that shocking, as this is a rebuilding season, and the goal is to see who takes steps forward and who stagnates, to figure out what holes will need to be filled heading into the 2019-20 offseason with the new stadium opening in 2020.
