MLB Rumors: Derek Holland and the San Francisco Giants have reportedly agreed to a one year, $7 million deal with a 2020 option, per multiple reports. Holland’s base salary for 2020 would be $6.5 million, according to Evan Grant, with escalators that would make the deal worth as much as $15 million over two years.
The Texas Rangers had reportedly been talking to Holland about a possible reunion with Texas, as Holland had a solid bounceback season in 2018 after struggling mightily with the Chicago White Sox in 2017. Once Shelby Miller was signed by the Rangers, however, the rotation did not have any open spots, and thus it would be hard to add another starter on a guaranteed deal barring an injury or a Mike Minor trade.
The Rangers will likely continue to look for starting pitching depth options, especially those who could be signed to a minor league deal or a non-guaranteed major league deal.
