Doug Brocail, the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers from 2016-18, has been hired as the new pitching coach of the Baltimore Orioles, per MLB.com.
The Orioles, after a historically bad 2018 season, have essentially started over, firing general manager Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter. The Orioles replaced Duquette with new general manager Mike Elias, who they hired away from the Houston Astros, where he was the assistant general manager in charge of scouting. Elias also brought Sig Mejdal with him to the Orioles from the Astros. Brocail worked with Elias in Houston from 2011-13 as the team’s pitching coach, and then as a special assistant.
Brocail is joining the staff of new manager Brandon Hyde, the former bench coach for the Chicago Cubs who was one of the managerial candidates the Texas Rangers interviewed before hiring Chris Woodward.
