Texas Rangers outfielder Hunter Pence is one of three finalists for the 2019 American League Comeback Player of the Year, it was announced today. Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox and Jorge Soler of the Kansas City Royals are the other two finalists.

Pence’s career appeared to be over after a 2018 season that saw him put up a 590 OPS in 97 games. However, Pence re-worked his swing in winter ball, and signed a minor league deal with the Rangers for 2019. Pence not only made the major league team, he earned a spot on the American League All Team squad, and posted a .297/.358/.552 slash line in 316 plate appearances while receiving praise for his work ethic and clubhouse presence.

The winner will be announced next week.
