Josh Hamilton has been arrested, with the former Texas Rangers outfielder being booked Wednesday on felony injury to a child charges, per the Dallas Morning News. The DMN also says that Hamilton was the subject of a request for a protective order sought by his ex-wife, Katie Hamilton, earlier this month. For a protective order to be granted (and there is no word yet on whether it has been granted), there must be a finding that family violence has occurred in the past, and will likely occur in the future if a protective order is not granted.
Hamilton, 38, has a long and well publicized history of substance abuse, which derailed his career at one point. After getting sober, the former #1 overall pick made a remarkable comeback, highlighted by winning the American League MVP in 2010. He has also had several public relapses, with such an occasion while he was with the Angels leading the Angels, who had signed him to a 5 year, $125 million deal after 2012, to trade him to Texas.
