MLB Rumors: The San Francisco Giants have hired Scott Harris as their new general manager, per Jeff Passan on Twitter. Harris is currently an assistant general manager with the Chicago Cubs.
The Giants had been seeking someone to fill the general manager position under president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, who was hired almost exactly a year ago. The g.m. position has been vacant, and Harris steps in as the number two baseball guy for the Giants.
Harris, 32, has an undergrad degree from UCLA and an MBA that he finished at Northwestern after joining the Cubs in 2012 as their director of baseball operations.
UPDATE — The Giants have officially announced that Harris has been hired.
