Alvarez, Alonso win Rookie of the Year Awards

Yordan Alvarez and Peter Alonso are the winners of this years ROY awards

Yordan Alvarez and Peter Alonso are the winners of the 2019 Rookie of the Year Award for the American League and the National League, respectively.

Alvarez, a Houston Astro DH, put up a 1067 OPS in 369 plate appearances after a mid season call-up, and was the unanimous ROY pick. Orioles starting pitcher John Means finished second, followed by Brandon Lowe of the Rays in third and Eloy Jimenez of the ChiSox in fourth. Four other players also received votes.

Alonso, the Mets first baseman, received 29 of 30 first place votes after becoming the first rookie to hit 50 home runs in a season. Mike Soroka, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher, finished second and got the other first place vote. Fernando Tatis Jr was third, followed by Bryan Reynolds, Dakota Hudson and Victor Robles.
