Atlanta Braves sign Chris Martin

The Braves announced that they have re-signed relief pitcher Chris Martin

MLB: Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics Cody Glenn-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent relief pitcher Chris Martin has re-signed with the Atlanta Braves for $14 million over 2 years, the team announced today. The righthander was acquired by the Braves from the Texas Rangers in July in exchange for left handed pitcher Kolby Allard.

Martin, 33, is an Arlington native who signed with the Rangers prior to the 2018 season after having spent the previous two years pitching for the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan. Martin had a 4.54 ERA and a 3.52 FIP pitching out of the pen for Texas last year, and a 3.40 ERA and 3.25 FIP splitting 2019 between Atlanta and Texas.

We had discussed the possibility of Texas bringing Martin back this offseason to fortify the bullpen, but Atlanta apparently liked what they saw from him and is keeping him around on a pretty healthy deal.
