Doug Mathis, former Texas Rangers pitcher and, in 2019, the AAA pitching coach for the Toronto Blue Jays, will be the new bullpen coach for the Texas Rangers, according to Evan Grant on Twitter. Mathis would be replacing Oscar Marin, who was just hired as the Pittsburgh Pirates new pitching coach.
Mathis, 36, was a 13th round draft pick of the Rangers out of the University of Missouri in the 2005 MLB Draft. He pitched in the majors for the Rangers from 2008-10, and spent 2011-14 in AAA for various teams, with brief stints in Japan and Korea mixed in.
Mathis was the pitching coach for the low-A Clinton Lumberkings in the Mariners system in 2017-18 before coaching for Toronto in 2019.
