John Sickels, who spent a number of years covering prospects at SBN, has a new gig — he’s joined the Athletic, where he will be doing a weekly column.

John’s debut there is his top 100 prospect list for 2019, which includes a pair of Texas Rangers prospects, albeit towards the end — the indefatigable Hans Crouse checks in at #91 on the list, while J.P. Martinez is at #99. He also names Jonathan Ornelas as a “deep sleeper” in the Rangers system to keep an eye on.

The consensus, in seeing the rankings that have come out this offseason, is that some combination of Hans Crouse, Cole Winn, J.P. Martinez and Leody Taveras are the Rangers’ top prospects, with the four AA starting pitchers (Joe Palumbo, Taylor Hearn, Jonathan Hernandez and Brock Burke) in a tier behind them, along with Cole Ragans, Anderson Tejeda and Bubba Thompson.
