Monday Morning Texas Rangers Update

Only four games back of the Cactus League lead!

Good morning.

Jeff Wilson spoke with old man Elvis Andrus who is now 30 and the unquestioned leader in the clubhouse.

Connor Byrne of MLB Trade Rumors reviewed the Rangers offseason efforts ahead of the 2019 season.

Wilson notes that a relatively healthy spring for the Rangers hit a snag yesterday as Joey Gallo will miss time with a groin strain.

T.R. Sullivan writes that Gallo thinks he would be playing if this were the regular season and that he believes he’ll be in the Opening Day lineup.

Evan Grants writes that Willie Calhoun could ultimately be hurt in his quest to make the team in the fallout from Gallo’s injury.

The hits kept coming for Texas on Sunday as Yohander Mendez left his start with elbow tightness. Sullivan quotes manager Chris Woodward as saying it didn’t look good for the young left-hander.

Grant has more on Mendez’s elbow among his notes which also include an item on Ronald Guzman suffering a knee issue that took him out of the lineup yesterday.

Wilson ponders what it would mean for the Rangers’ pitching depth if Mendez misses significant time.

ESPN listed off the top 100 players in baseball and the Rangers were among four teams that had zero players listed. David Schoenfield looks at who would have been the next man up for each team.

And, lastly, more to ESPN’s point, Will Leitch picks the hottest jersey to own from each team and selects Hunter Pence’s No. 24 for the Rangers.

Have a nice day!
