The Texas Rangers 2019 top prospect list from Fangraphs is out, with 38 players making the cut on the Fangraphs list. Heading up a system that Fangraphs calls middle-of-the-pack, deep and homogenous is 2018 first rounder Cole Winn, who edges out Leody Taveras and Bubba Thompson among the team’s three players to earn a 50 FV.
In perusing the list, the guys who are higher than expected include Owen White, Jonathan Ornelas, and Keithron Moss, while Brock Burke, Jonathan Hernandez and Demarcus Evans are a lot lower than you would expect.
What jumps out at you in perusing this list is that there’s a bunch of pitchers (21 of the 38 ranked), and then six shortstops, four center fielders, and three catchers. Other than Sherten Apostel, there’s not anyone in the system you look at as a potential impact middle-of-the-order power bat. But there’s a ton of arms and up-the-middle-defenders, which are always useful.
