Elvis Andrus was lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of tonight’s game against the Oakland A’s. Elvis was hit on the right forearm area in his first plate appearance of the game, and was examined by the trainer but stayed in the game. Elvis struck out in his next two plate appearances, and then was lifted in the seventh for pinch hitter Patrick Wisdom.

The assumption is that Elvis was pulled due to the pain or other issues stemming from the HBP, though he did make a couple of throws from shortstop post-HBP.

‘There’s no word yet from the team about Elvis, why he was pulled, if he is getting x-rays, or what have you, Elvis came into the game slashing .363/.407/.575, and has been key to the team’s early success.

We will provide an update when one is available.

UPDATE — The Rangers say Elvis was removed as a precautionary measure due to a bruised right hand.

UPDATE II — X-Rays were negative, so no fracture — just a bruise.
