Down East Wood Ducks righthanded pitcher Tyler Phillips was scoreless in his first theee outings of the season before his April 23 outing against the Lynchburg Hillcats, when he gave up a homer in the 5th inning, and saw 3 more runs be charged on his ledger in the 6th inning.

Phillips responded today, however, by starting a new scoreless streak, throwing 7 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits and 3 walks, and striking out 7. The most remarkable part of this outing is probably the walks — he had only walked 1 batter this season prior to today, and hadn’t walked 3 batters in a game since June, 2017. The 21 year old Phillips now has a 1.14 ERA in 31.2 IP, with 24 Ks and 4 walks allowed. He’s pitching like a guy who wants to get to Frisco this year.

In relief of Phillips, Michael Matuella pitched a scoreless 8th, walking 1 and striking out 1, lowering his ERA to 2.84. And while Joe Barlow walked a pair in the 9th, he got out of it without allowing a run, lowering his ERA to 0.84.
