Texas Rangers infielder Patrick Wisdom is on his way to join the Rangers in Los Angeles, per Levi Weaver on Twitter. This is in the aftermath of Ronald Guzman’s hamstring issue that resulted in him leaving the game yesterday.
This could mean one of three things:
The Rangers aren’t sure if Guzman will be able to play today, and want Wisdom on hand in case a move has to be made.
The Rangers are going to put Guzman on the injured list before today’s game, and Wisdom will replace him on the active roster.
The Rangers don’t know if Guzman will need an i.l. trip or not, but don’t want a two man bench today, and thus will send down a pitcher (likely Kyle Bird) so Wisdom can be active today, with the possibility of making another move Tuesday if Guzman still can’t go.
Wisdom is a righthanded hitter who plays first base and third base, and if the Rangers we going to be without Guzman for a short period of time, they may want to have Wisdom and Logan Forsythe share first base duties while Guzman heals. The Rangers have indicated they don’t want to shuffle Joey Gallo between the outfield and first base, but if Guzman is going to be on the shelf an extended period of time, that would seem to be the best course of action. One would think a month or two of Gallo at first base and Willie Calhoun in left field would be better than Gallo in the outfield and Forsythe at first base.
