New York Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar will miss the rest of the 2019 season after electing to undergo shoulder surgery, it was announced today. Andujar will have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The 24 year old Andujar finished second in the Rookie of the Year balloting last year, when he put up a .297/.328/.527 slash line. His defense at third base, however, was generally seen as quite poor, and there was talk even before this injury that he might not stay at the hot corner going forward. This surgery would seem to make it more likely he ends up shifting positions.

The Yankees are using Gio Urshela, acquired from the Blue Jays last August, at third base, and he’s off to a great start, putting up an OPS over 900. If he cools down, however, and the Yankees look for a veteran option at third base, Asdrubal Cabrera or Logan Forsythe could be possible options when we get to July.
