The Texas Rangers will have Jose Leclerc start tomorrow’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team announced today. Following Leclerc will be Adrian Sampson, who will pitch in the post-opener starter role.
This is the second time the Rangers will have used the opener this season, after having Jesse Chavez open for Drew Smyly on May 11 against Houston. Leclerc, of course, was the Rangers’ closer until a bad streak resulted in him being removed from that role. He will most likely pitch to 3-6 batters before Sampson takes over.
