The Texas Rangers had two of their better righthanded starting pitching prospects on the mound today, with Yerry Rodriguez going for Hickory and Jonathan Hernandez going for Frisco, and the two ended up with somewhat similar lines.
Yerry had the better start, going 6 innings and allowing 4 hits while striking out 7, walking 2 and hitting a batter. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a homer, and he had bad defense behind him at the wrong time, and he ended up allowing 4 runs, 2 of them earned. Rodriguez threw 62 strikes out of 91 pitches, and now has an ERA of 1.95.
Hernandez also gave up 4 runs, with 2 being earned and 2 unearned, though he logged just 5 innings for Frisco. Hernandez struck out 6 Sod Poodles (ugh) while walking just 1, but gave up 9 hits, with the walk and 3 of those hits coming in a 3-run first. On the offense side, Michael De Leon had two more hits, pushing his OPS up to 705 on the season, as did Andretty Cordero, who is up to 801.
Down East shut out the Dash today, and righty reliever Joe Barlow continued mowing down Carolina League hitters, throwing 2 shutout innings and striking out 5 of the 7 batters he faced, lowering his ERA to 0.45. Leody Taveras didn’t get a hit today, but he walked twice, while Sam Huff registered a pair of singles, including a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th to give the Wood Ducks a 1-0 victory.
For Nashville, Carlos Tocci got 3 hits, Matt Davidson had 2 doubles, and Patrick Wisdom and Hunter Cole each had a single and a homer.
