The Down East Wood Ducks have already seen a pair of hard throwing righty relievers, Peter Fairbanks and Emmanuel Clase, get promoted to Frisco this season. There are two hard throwing right hander as still in the DEWD pen, however, who will probably be following them soon, and who may even be better prospects.
Joe Barlow came in with two outs in the sixth inning for Down East, and struck out 4 of the 8 batters he faced. He walked 2 and allowed a hit but didn’t allow any runs in 1.2 IP, lowering his ERA on the season to 0.38.
Barlow was followed by Demarcus Evans, who came in with one out in the eighth inning. Evans needed 16 pitches (12 strikes) to retire the 5 batters he faced, 2 via strikeout. Evans lowered his ERA on the year to 0.81.
The Ducks had the bats going today as well, with Diosbel Arias picking up 2 singles and 2 doubles along with a walk, Leody Taveras knocking 3 singles, and Sam Huff getting 2 hits, a walk and an HBP.
For Hickory, Ronny Henriquez got the start, and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) in 4 IP, with 5 hits, 2 walks and 4 Ks. He was relieved by another 5’10” right hander, Abdiel Mendoza, who threw 4 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits and a walk while striking out 3, and lowering his ERA to 1.98.
Hickory was kept off the board until the 9th, when Miguel Aparicio and Curtis Terry each homered, but Matt Whatley got two hits, while Pedro Gonzalez picked up 3 hits, raising his OPS on the year to 810.
