Odubel Herrera has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, and the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder will presumably be placed on the restricted list today, per reports from Philadelphia.

Herrera was, per the report, arrested after “a report of a domestic violence incident” involving Herrera’s 20 year old girlfriend. It reportedly took place at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.

Herrera, originally a member of the Texas Rangers organization before being selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2014-15 offseason in the Rule 5 draft, had established himself as a first division starter in his first couple of seasons before seeing his production wane in the last couple of years.

MLB’s policy on domestic violence issues has been to immediately place the player on the restricted list, when the episode occurs during the season, while it is determined what, if any, discipline should be meted out.

UPDATE — Herrera has been put on administrative leave while MLB investigates the situation.
