Joe Palumbo got the ball for Frisco tonight, and put up four strong innings before getting into trouble in the fifth. Palumbo’s final line was 4.2 IP, 4 hits, 3 walks, 1 run and 4 strikeouts. He left with the bases loaded and two outs with the fifth, and Peter Fairbanks came in to strike out the final batter and end the Amarillo rally. Palumbo now has a 3.47 ERA, and while he has seemed to get hit with one troublesome inning per start, overall he’s had a good start to the year.
Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless 9th, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. All three of these guys could be pitching in Arlington this season.
Cole Winn, meanwhile, took the mound for Hickory, and once again had control problems, though he managed to largely keep the opposing team off the board. Only 35 of Winn’s 68 pitches were for strikes, and he walked 5 batters while striking out 1 in 4 IP, but allowed just 1 run and 2 hits. Sherten Apostel and Curtis Terry each homered for Hickory.
