Texas Rangers transactions: Joey Gallo has been placed on the 10 day injured list with a strained oblique, the team announced this morning. Replacing him on the active roster is Delino DeShields, who was recalled from AAA Nashville.
Gallo apparently felt something in his oblique yesterday in the fifth inning while making a throw. He felt it in the bottom of the inning during his at bat, and was lifted in the middle of the at bat with a 3-2 count in favor of Danny Santana. After the game, Chris Woodward said he passed the strength tests, but they wanted to see the results of the MRI. Oblique injuries are tricky things, and given Gallo’s importance and how early in the year it is, I have no doubt the team would rather err on the side of caution and let him rest and get it fully healthy rather than risk exacerbating the injury and turning it into something that could have him out for months.
Delino DeShields takes his place, and will presumably share center field duties with Danny Santana in Gallo’s absence.
