40-35 - Minor effort leads to major win as Rangers drop Indians 4-2

The Rangers ended up splitting the series with the Indians with a finale victory

So, in the end, as bad as the middle two games in this series were, the Rangers come away with a series split.

You can thank the two-headed monster that Lance Lynn and Mike Minor have become for Texas. Lynn pitched a great game in the opener in a 7-2 Rangers win which saw him top the American League leaderboard in fWAR.

Minor wanted in on the action today and, even though he didn’t have the K numbers (just four strikeouts) that Lynn enjoyed, in a mid-June day game in Arlington he went eight innings an allowed just one run on three hits and three walks for a Rangers team that had allowed 20 runs to these Indians in the previous two nights.

For Minor’s effort, he almost certainly remains atop the bWAR pitcher leaders for the entire planet.

Player(s) of the Game: In addition to Minor’s gem, the Rangers got back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning from Danny Santana and Elvis Andrus to give the Rangers some breathing room in a then 2-1 game. The home runs proved not just fun but necessary as Shawn Kelley came in in the ninth and immediately allowed a home run that would have tied the game without the previous inning’s insurance.

Both Santana and Andrus each had two hits in their four at-bats and both scored two runs apiece. Santana’s other hit on the day was a double but Elvis one-upped him a little with a triple.

Up Next: The Rangers welcome the Chicago White Sox to Arlington for a three-game set to put an end to this brutal 21 games in 20 days stretch. RHP Ariel Jurado will make the start for Texas in Friday night’s opener against RHP Reynaldo Lopez. First pitch from the Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
