Texas Rangers activate Joey Gallo from injured list

As expected, Joey Gallo was activated from the injured list today

Texas Rangers transactions: Joey Gallo has been officially activated from the 10 day injured list, the Rangers announced today. Gallo was placed on the injured list on June 2 with a left oblique strain, and has been on a rehab assignment the past several days with the Rangers’ complex team in the Arizona Rookie League.

Kyle Bird was optioned to AAA Nashville after Sunday’s game, opening up the roster spot that we anticipated Gallo would fill. Texas is going with a 7 man bullpen right now to bring Gallo up, since Asdrubal Cabrera is currently suspended but still counts against the active roster.

Potentially causing further roster complications is the fact that Hunter Pence supposedly will be ready to return to the active roster on Thursday. Activating Pence will require the Rangers to do something with a position player to open up a roster spot, even if they opt to go with a seven man, rather than an eight man, bullpen, and there’s no clear-cut easy option to open up that roster spot.
