46-38 - Rangers felled by Snell, Rays in road trip finale

The Rangers finish with a winning road trip but couldn’t finish off the Rays in a rare rubber match loss

MLB: Texas Rangers at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Blake Snell was the 2018 AL Cy Young winner but came into today’s game with an ERA above 5 and had allowed 23 runs in 17 13 innings in June. So, of course, he comes out today and pitches one of the strongest game against the Rangers all season with 12 Ks and just three hits allowed.

The Rangers opened this road trip with a sweep of the Tigers and a win in the opener of this series but they ran into two lefty starters who shoved and will have to settle for a winning road trip but a series loss.

Player of the Game: Only one person did this:

Only one Joey Gallo.

Up Next: The Rangers head back home for a brief four-game homestand against the Angels to open July. Mike Minor will take the mound for Texas against LHP Jose Suarez for Anaheim in Monday’s opener. First pitch from The Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
