Cabrera, Odor out today with ailments

The Rangers scratched both Rougned Odor and Asdrubal Cabrera from the lineup today

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers Andrew Dieb-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers had two late scratches from their lineup today, with second baseman Rougned Odor being scratched due to a tight hamstring, and Asdrubal Cabrera being removed from the lineup just before game time due to back stiffness.

Odor was pulled from the game Friday in the ninth inning due to a similar issue, and was out yesterday. Odor and Cabrera both having issues left the Rangers with a bench of only Tim Federowicz and Nomar Mazara.

A roster move was coming on Monday anyway, as newly claimed relief pitcher Jesse Biddle was going to be added to the active roster. My assumption has been that, given how little the bullpen has been used of late, either Locke St. John or Brett Martin would go down to make room for Biddle. However, it’s possible Texas could opt to put one of the injured infielders on the injured list, opening a spot for Biddle, and then send a reliever down later in the week when Hunter Pence is ready to be activated.

With the All Star Break starting Monday, putting either Cabrera or Odor on the i.l. would mean missing a week of games, and then being eligible to return after the Break. If the Rangers are concerned about the health of both guys, Texas could bring up Patrick Wisdom to give them a backup infielder for the short term.

UPDATE — Odor pinch hit in the 9th, so they apparently weren’t so concerned about his leg that he couldn’t have an at bat.
