2019 MLB Draft: The Texas Rangers select Cody Freeman, Etiwanda high school in Rancho Cucamonga, CA SS/Infielder, with their fourth round pick, #115 overall.
The Rangers finally went prep with an SS/infielder out of California. Freeman isn’t listed by the MLB Pipeline rankings and isn’t on Keith Law’s top 100 draft prospects but Fangraphs has him as the 11th ranked high school bat beyond their top 100 on their big board.
Freeman, a 5’ 10 165 lbs. high school senior, is listed as an infielder but you’d have to hope that means shortstop. Freeman is the brother of Cleveland Indians prospect Tyler Freeman who is currently ranked by MLB Pipeline as the 94th best overall prospect in the league.
Also, because we have to have Texas ties, Cody Freeman is a Baylor commit.
Pick #1, (8th overall): Texas Tech third baseman Josh Jung
Pick #2, (41st overall): Baylor third baseman Davis Wendzel
