Down East lefthanded pitcher John King, the Rangers 10th round pick in 2017, started in Hickory this season, pitched well, was promoted to the Wood Ducks a month ago, and has pitched even better. King needed 79 pitches (50 for strikes) to go 5 shutout IP, allowing 3 hits and a walk, striking out 5, and lowering his ERA in the Carolina League to 1.67.
Jonathan Hernandez, meanwhile, had possibly his best outing as a pro last time out for Frisco, but had an effort tonight that wasn’t as strong. 5 IP for Hernandez, 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks, with 4 Ks. He now has a 5.63 ERA on the year.
For Hickory, Sherten Apostel had another home run, his 4th in his last 5 games. Miguel Aparicio continued his quietly solid season, getting a hit and a walk, and Kole Enright, the Rangers 2016 3rd rounder, went 2 for 3 with a walk, and has been white hot since joining the Crawdads last week.
