Isiah Kiner-Falefa leaves game with jammed finger

Rangers catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa left tonight’s game in the 8th inning due to a jammed middle finger

MLB: Texas Rangers at Los Angeles Angels Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa was lifted from tonight’s game in the 8th inning due to a jammed right middle finger he suffered diving back into first base in the bottom of the 7th inning. He was replaced by Jeff Mathis.

This would appear to be a relatively minor issue, but it potentially complicates issues for the Rangers in their weekend series against Oakland. Texas doesn’t have another healthy catcher on the 40 man roster — Jose Trevino is currently on the AAA injured list — and they have a doubleheader on Saturday. If Kiner-Falefa can’t play, the Rangers would have to add a catcher to the 40 man roster (which currently doesn’t have an open spot) and bring him up, since Texas can’t really have no backup catcher on Friday, and can’t ask Jeff Mathis to catch both games on Saturday.
