Texas Rangers transactions: Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been placed on the 10 day injured list due to a sprained right middle finger ligament. To replace him on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have acquired veteran catcher Tim Federowicz from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named later or cash. To clear a spot for Federowicz on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have transferred pitcher Taylor Hearn to the 60 day i.l.

Kiner-Falefa will reportedly miss a few weeks with the finger injury, and with the only other catcher on the 40 man roster, Jose Trevino, currently injured, the Rangers had to add someone to the 40 man roster to back up Mathis. Rather than stay in house, Texas opted to add the 31 year old Federowicz from the Indians — he has spent the season at AAA Columbus.

Federowicz has a career 570 OPS in 360 major league plate appearances over 134 major league games. He is, at this point, a body, and we shall see if the Rangers choose to stick with him while Kiner-Falefa is out, or if he is just a placeholder who they could add for today while they continue to look for another option.

As for Hearn, he’s been on the i.l. for over a month and a half, and thus moving him to the 60 day injured list doesn’t really impact him, since he wouldn’t be someone the Rangers would be looking at bringing up before they hit the 60 day mark later this month anyway.
