Texas Rangers Week 14 Recap and Angels Series Preview

Series record: 14-6, 7 splits

The Texas Rangers started out the week sweeping Detroit and coming within four and half games of the division and just one game of the top wild card spot.

After losing their first series since the end of May, they ended the week two games back from Tampa Bay in the first wild card, a half came ahead of Cleveland for the second wild card, and six and a half games back in the division.

They’re now headed home for a quick four-game home stand against the Los Angeles Angles, who just lost a four game series against Oakland.

Pitching Match ups:

Jose Suarez / Mike Minor

Griffin Canning / Ariel Jurado

Tyler Skaggs / Adrian Sampson

The Rangers haven’t faced Suarez, in his four starts this season, he is 2-1 in 21 innings with a 5.57 ERA. Canning has faced the Rangers once, he got the no decision after going five innings giving up one run on three hits and two walks. The Rangers won that game, that was their last series loss before losing to Tampa this week.

Skaggs will start Thursday’s Fourth of July game, the Rangers have faced him twice this season. In May, Skaggs went 5.2 innings and gave up no runs on three hits and two walks and got the no decision.

The Angels are currently 42-43, 4-6 in their last 10, and four games back in the Wild Card.

All-Star Notes

Hunter Pence will be the starting DH for the American League in Cleveland next week. He’s the only starter for the Texas Rangers, their first starter since 2012.

Joey Gallo and Mike Minor are also headed to the All-Star game as reserves.
