Joe Palumbo, Cole Winn pitch well

A pair of the Rangers top pitching prospects had nice outings today

Joe Palumbo returned to the Nashville rotation today for his first start after last Sunday’s scoreless 3 IP outing in a relief role in Minnesota. Facing the New Orleans Baby Cakes, Palumbo threw 68 pitches (48 strikes) in 4 IP, with 6 Ks, 2 walks, 1 hit and 1 run allowed, lowering his AAA ERA to 3.38 on the year. Rehabbing Kyle Dowdy allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning of work. Jose Trevino had a pair of hits.

Hickory’s Cole Winn continued his recent track record of quality work, throwing 72 pitches (41 for strikes) in 5 IP, allowing 1 run on 3 hits (including a homer), 1 walk and 4 Ks. That’s 3 runs allowed by Winn over his last 17 innings covering 4 starts. Crawdad hitters had just 4 hits today but 8 walks. Sherten Apostel, Tyreque Reed and Melvin Novoa each had a hit and a walk, Jonathan Ornelas had a single, and Matt Whatley had 3 walks.

Bubba Thompson returned to action today for Down East, singling and striking out twice while stealing a base. Sam Huff had a homer and a walk, Diosbel Arias had a homer, Curtis Terry had a single and a double and J.P. Martinez had a bunt single and three Ks.

Hunter Pence was 2 for 4 today for Frisco before being lifted for a pinch runner, as he continues his rehab assignment. Demarcus Evans retired both batters he faced, 1 via the strikeout,

For Spokane, 2019 2nd rounder Ryan Garcia gave up a run on 2 hits in 2 innings of work, striking out 3. Teodoro Ortega went 3.2 scoreless, with 3 Ks and a walk, dropping his ERA to 1.31. Obie Ricumstrict had a single and a double, and David Garcia had a single, a double, and an apparent two run 9th inning home run that was then called foul after umpires conferred, with Spokane’s manager then being ejected.

And Josh Jung continues to hit. He was 3 for 4 tonight with a walk for the AZL Rangers. Shortstop Derwin Barreto was 4 for 6 with a homer, and Keyber Rodriguez had a hit and a walk.
