Minor won’t pitch in ASG, Gallo won’t be in HR Derby

The Texas Rangers have three representatives for the 2019 MLB All Star Game, but Hunter Pence is questionable with an injury, and Mike Minor won’t pitch in the game because he will be starting for the Rangers on Sunday. In addition, Joey Gallo, the team’s third rep, won’t participate in the Home Run Derby due to his recent oblique injury.

Minor was originally slated to pitch Monday and Saturday, lining him up to pitch an inning on Tuesday in the All Star Game. After last night’s game was cancelled, however, Minor will start tonight and Sunday, and thus won’t pitch Tuesday. He will still be at the game and will be considered an All Star. He will also, I believe, be replaced on the active roster, and fellow rotation member Lance Lynn would seem to be a worthy choice.

As for Gallo, he was a surprising omission from the Home Run Derby, though the beats are reporting it was a “mutual decision” between Gallo and the club to skip the event, due to his recent oblique injury. It’s disappointing for those of us who would like to see Joey put on a show, but also understandable.
