Josh Jung, Bubba Thompson have big offensive days

Two of the Rangers’ last three first round picks had solid days at the plate this afternoon

Josh Jung has hit the ground running in the Sally League. In 5 plate appearances for Hickory today, Jung was 3 for 4 with a walk, pushing his batting average up to .381 in low-A and his OPS to 864. Pedro Gonzalez and Frainyer Chavez each had a hit and a walk, and Hever Bueno pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with 2 Ks.

Bubba Thompson, meanwhile, had a triple, a home run and a walk for Down East today. Sam Huff, J.P. Martinez and Curtis Terry each had a pair of hits, and Sherten Apostel had a single. JPM also had 3 steals.

Frisco threw a shutout tonight, with Edgar Arredondo going 4 innings, Blake Bass going 3 innings and Demarcus Evans going 2. Evans retired all six batters he faced, two via strikeout. Leody Taveras had a hit, and Michael De Leon had two hits.

Spokane clinched their first half division title tonight. Billy Layne, Jr. went 1.2 scoreless IP, and Teodoro Ortega gave up 3 runs on 3 solo home runs in 3.2 IP with 3 Ks.

Kyle Dowdy made a rehab start for Nashville and went 3.1 IP, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks, striking out 2. Joe Barlow allowed 3 runs in an inning of work. Willie Calhoun walked 3 times, and Nick Solak doubled.
