Joey Gallo to injured list, Willie Calhoun recalled

As expected, the Rangers have put Joey Gallo on the injured list and recalled Willie Calhoun

Texas Rangers transactions: Joey Gallo has been placed on the 10 day injured list, and Willie Calhoun has been recalled from AAA Nashville to take his place, the Rangers announced today.

This move has been expected after the news this afternoon that Gallo was having surgery for a broken hamate bone in his wrist. John Blake says Gallo is expected to miss a minimum of 4 weeks, and with Gallo out, Calhoun will now be part of the rotation at the corner outfield and DH spots.

Calhoun and Nomar Mazara are both sitting today against Oakland lefthander Brett Anderson. With the trade deadline six days away, Hunter Pence could be on the move, at which point I would expect Calhoun to play pretty much every day. Unless and until Pence departs, however, Calhoun will probably start about 70% of the time.
