The Chicago Cubs have acquired former Texas Rangers reliever Derek Holland and cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, it has been announced today. To make room for him the Cubs have designated relief pitcher Tim Collins for assignment.
Holland was designated for assignment earlier this week, and I thought the Rangers might be interested in taking a look at Holland on a minor league deal if he cleared waivers, but it appears the Cubs are going to take a look at him as a lefty bullpen option. Collins, for what it is worth, is a tiny lefty reliever who has had success in the past, and who the Rangers might put a claim in on as they churn through various bullpen options right now.
