Texas Rangers transactions: Carlos Tocci has cleared waivers and been outrighted to AAA Nashville, the Rangers announced today.
Tocci was designated for assignment earlier this week in order to clear a 40 man roster spot for pitcher Rafael Montero. The Rangers had carried Tocci, a Rule 5 pick from the Philadelphia Phillies organization, last year, and thus were able to option him to the minors this year. However, after a .246/.317/.312 slash line in Nashville this year, the Rangers apparently decided that they no longer wished to devote a 40 man roster spot to him.
If Tocci is not added to the 40 man roster before the end of the season, he will be a free agent this offseason.
