2019 MLB All Star Game: Hunter Pence, the Texas Rangers outfielder voted the American League All Star Team starting DH, will not play in the All Star Game on Tuesday, the team announced today. Pence, who was pulled off a rehab assignment yesterday after aggravating his pulled groin that landed him on the injured list, will participate in the All Star Game festivities, but won’t actually play. Xander Bogaerts has been named to the team in Pence’s place.

He joins Mike Minor as Rangers who are officially on the roster and selected to the team but not playing. Minor will be ineligible as he is pitching on Sunday for the Rangers. The only Ranger All Star who is slated to actually get game time is Joey Gallo, who was named to the team as a reserve.

Also being ruled unable to play today is Angels infielder Tommy La Stella, who left yesterday’s game after fouling a ball off his leg. His replacement has not yet been named.
